Nick is a PhD student in the Department of Materials and his work is being supervised by Professor Stephen Skinner. In 2018 he graduated from the University of Southampton with a First Class MChem degree whilst working for Merck KGaA. His current research is industrially supported and investigates the transport phenomena of fluorite-type oxide materials through a combination of experimental and theoretical techniques. He is also part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in the Advanced Characterisation of Materials which now collaborates with two other world leading universities (University College London and Trinity College Dublin).

As a graduate teaching assistant, he has engaged in delivering four undergraduate courses. Nick is also involved with educational outreach and is currently supporting two secondary school children from the charity Grenfell Unite by giving 1:1 tuition in Mathematics, Science and Computer Science.
